Age-Friendly Scholars are the next generation of leaders creating a more inclusive region for all ages.
Age-Friendly Scholars are local undergraduate and graduate students across disciplines who are passionate about aging issues and learning how to apply age-friendly concepts to their careers. Students in this two-semester program attend group learning sessions, network with community partners and contribute to ongoing Age-Friendly projects.
The second and current class of Age-Friendly Scholars (2024-2025) consists of 10 students studying a range of fields—like social work, computer science, public health, business and psychology—at seven local universities: Carlow University, Carnegie Mellon University, Chatham University, Community College of Allegheny County, Duquesne University, Penn State University and University of Pittsburgh. The first class (2023-2024) included nine students in fields such as information systems, public health and engineering at four local colleges: Carlow University, Carnegie Mellon University, University of Pittsburgh and Penn State Greater Allegheny).
